The Vox article that I was interviewed for is up and running, and it contains some serious fuckign information about this whole fiasco.

Information that tumblr just straight up refused to provide to its userbase at all.

Unsurprisingly to those of us watching this website deteriorate over the last year, this full content purge and ban has been in progress for a solid 6 months. The date got moved up because of the child porn thing, but it was always coming for us.

Equally unsurprising: Tumblr’s management and ownership are absolutely destroying the actual staff working on it. The company has been hemoragghing senior staff without so much as a token attempt to keep them in place. So the drops in site quality are real, and wil probably only be getting worse.

Truly astonishing is the fact that apparently this crap was supposed to “double” the userbase by the end of next year. Boy, howdy, that’s not gonna work out well for them.

good luck with your plan to sell ads targeting a user base that doesn’t exist any more, @staff.

Then they’re def gonna let Tumblr die on the vine when it doesn’t pan out. It’ll take a few years but mark my words, this is going to work out about as well as when Rupert Murdoch bought MySpace and everybody left. Also, fuck Verizon forever.

Plz lemme know if you reblog this and it disappears. I have Suspicions.

I mean, there are already mutuals of mine reporting that they can’t see this post, only a “post was deleted"notice on my blog, and I’m the OP.

So, whatever your suspicions are, I suppose mark them as confirmed.

i’ve seen it disappear about 5 times off my dash.

When Tumblr bans porn, who loses?

good things about the nsfw ban

  • good idea to ban nsfw content on a 13+ website. like as a concept, it is a good policy!!
  • no more cp
  • children will not get exposed to nsfw shit on here anymore (literally you could not search the tag of any female character, including adult ones, without finding porn of her. after this ban was announced, a 15 year old i know’s first reaction was “finally i can search any tag ever”)
  • no more dudes with blogs that are just gifs of stolen footage from sex workers
  • no more nerds with hentai blogs. theyre not inherently bad but i personally hate them

bad things about the nsfw ban

  • will hurt sex workers who use this site to advertise
  • bad implementation: things getting incorrectly flagged as nsfw. several sfw lgbt tags and a few fandom tags (like, for children’s tv shows) were made unsearchable, and some innocent people’s blogs were deleted. this is more a problem with the implementation, than the policy itself.
  • not necessarily a bad thing about the nsfw ban, but a bad thing related to it: tumblr ONLY did this bc they got taken out of the app store. they don’t actually give a shit

things that are unrelated to the nsfw ban but important to note

  • tumblr still hasn’t banned the terfs or the nazis, and they need to.
  • tumblr STILL promotes pedophilic content. in their “year in review 2018″ thing, many of the “top ships” listed were pedophilic (like sheith) or incestuous (like thorki). this is disgusting.

heads up before you spend $$ on pillowfort, especially note the paypal thing. the io domain concern does not seem carefully enforced but is in the TOS so 🤷

For my friends considering pillowfort.io.

They have already posted that they are planning to move away from .io. No update on the GDPR or Paypal situations, though I would guess that these are both things they’re planning to deal with by the time the site is out of beta (which still isn’t for another 6 months or more). Hopefully staff will comment on both of those soon, as many people have been pointing them out.

(I’m not shocked they’re using Paypal right now, as it’s simply the most-common payment platform out there and so it’s just the easiest for everyone while they’re just taking money for beta keys. They haven’t set up their payment platform for premium features yet, so no report at all on what that will look like.)

Ah, turns out they have explicit plans to address the Paypal thing, too. The FAQ specifically says that one of their top priorities right now is “Developing and implementing a sustainable payment system.”

They are clearly aware that PP is not “sustainable” for this site, or else they wouldn’t need to say this.

What Pillow Fort even looks like

This is the home feed and the management system. It operates JUST LIKE the Tumblr dash.

You can see who you’re following and such. Personally, I like the added mutuals button.

A massive filter and Black List button.

No excuse why you can’t filter shit you don’t like. It’s pretty easy to use and part of the program from the get go.

Search button is with your other things on the user board thing. You can search shit up via hashtags.

Communities are basically places you can find people to talk to and such. Until I find an 18+ one though, I’m not signing up for one. Fortunately you still get content from the people you follow, so you don’t even HAVE to be part of a community if you don’t want to. I think this tool is what’s good for people like @dinodaddy @itsallprimal @thetriskeliondiaries @instructor144 @sccwriting @itsshinycollectordestinyworld and their D/s stuff.

Making posts is standard.

However, you can decide who views it, and if it can be commented upon. It’s pretty cool!

You also get the post to be searched via tags as shown above.

Look, it’s my blog!

Customization options so far.

And those are the features for Pillowfort. I personally enjoy them. There will probably be more once it gets bigger, and they leave the io thing. SO far it’s functional, but the increase in traffic makes it a little slow.

What do ya’ll think?

I really like how it looks ❤ and they’re planning on changing their domain to allow nsfw ❤  exciting
